Discover Natura MD Sciences
Dr. Richardson spent years researching the finest ingredients available to provide maximum results to consumers. In 2008 he came across a particularly extraordinary compilation of ingredients that were backed by scientific research and launched Natura MD Sciences. With the extraordinary healing power of Green Tea as the basis of the product line he happily provides you with a host of offerings.

"The cosmetic industry is a multi-billion dollar a year industry with thousands of products to choose from. This task of selecting the right product can be daunting and frustrating. My goal is to empower you with the knowledge of the truth in cosmetics. I hope to make the whole experience easier by providing you with proof that my product line can give you the results you desire without the frustration of reading labels in retail outlets. Let’s get started.
There exists only 6 key cosmeceutical ingredients that were reviewed in a recent article in 2010 in the Journal of Clinical and Aesthetic Dermatology. The six ingredients are: Soy Isoflavones, Soy Protease Inhibitors, Green tea, Retinoids, Niacinamide, and Kinetin. While there are a number of other agents in ingredient decks of products, these are the key players to look for when reading your product labels. Let’s take a look at each:
Green tea is proven to work in the skin as an antioxidant quenching molecules which are produced when skin is exposed to ultraviolet light called free radicals. These free radicals, if left unadressed, will damage collagen and elastic tissue found in the deeper layers of the dermis resulting in a yellow waxy change to the skin.
Not only does green tea prevent these free radicals from damaging collagen in the skin, it also reduces the production of enzymes by the body that are increased with age called metalloproteinases. Now we have an ingredient so far that will protect collagen from damage by sunlight and prevent this collagen from breaking down.
Green tea also has anti-inflammatory effects in the skin by working inside the cell nucleus to reduce production of pro-inflammatory mediators. The clinical results will be a soothing effect on the skin with a reduction in redness.
The last, but certainly not the least important effect of green tea in the skin is a slight photoprotection, but should not be relied upon as your sole sunscreen.
Based on these effects in the skin, green tea was at the top of my list to have in my product line.
A second compound that has emerged from clinical medicine, originally used to treat high cholesterol, is niacin and it’s related compounds such as niacinamide.
Niacinamide is emerging as one of the strongest anti-aging ingredients and will eventually replace an ingredient dear to my heart called tretinoin, a member of the retinoid family which we will address in a moment.
Niacinamide is a powerful antioxidant and improves barrier function by allowing the skin to retain water resulting in a more hydrated skin surface. This also results in a decrease in blotchiness and redness as skin that is more hydrated is less likely to be inflamed and red. One of the biggest issues I see in the aging complexion is discoloration. The color is mainly a conversion from an even light brown, or naturally white skin, to a slightly yellow discoloration. This phenomenon is called the Maillard reaction producing Amadori products which is another name for the small yellow-brown matrix components. This yellowing is also in part due to glycation. Niacinamide has been shown to demonstrate a reduction of this age related change.
Aside from all of the above wonderful improvements in hydration and color, niacinamide has the ability to decrease fine lines and wrinkles by increasing protein production in the skin. Niacinamide truly represents a one-ingredient wonder when it comes to anti-aging.
Soy isoflavones represent another group of compounds that can reduce the aging process. Key roles of soy isoflavones include antioxidant effects similar to niacinamide and green tea. Similarly, soy isoflavones also increase collagen production and the presence of hyaluronic acid in the skin.
Last, and certainly not least is my favorite group of compounds of all time for aging. This compound you have heard in television media for years. Retinol represents probably our oldest, most studied, reliable anti-aging product available at this time. Retinol is converted to the active agent retinoic acid once absorbed into the skin. This active compound retinoic acid then moves into the cell nucleus to increase collagen synthesis improving fine lines and wrinkles, induce more organized maturation of the epidermis and cell turnover decreasing roughness, and at the same time reducing pigmentation.
So where can you find a product line that is packed full of the above ingredients and more? Natura MD Sciences has a number of products that contain ingredients noted above.
Eyes are the number one “go to” that the average person walking by will look at you and immediately attempt to assess your age. Go ahead, look at someone passing by the next time and see if that’s where your eyes go to first for clues.
Natura Sciences MD has three products to address every concern for the surrounding eye area.
The first product – Restore– has peptide molecules, vitamin C, vitamin E, and green tea to address fine lines; hyaluronic acids are present to reduce the appearance of dark circles due to thinning of the skin as well. Basic moisturizing molecules such as cholesterol, ceramide, and linoleic acid are present as well for hydration. Puffiness is reduced with this product as well by containing natural willow herb extracts, dipeptide-2, and hesperidin. The overall result is more rested, youthful appearance.
The second eye product – Relax– is designed to further target puffiness of the eye. Hisperidin is present in this product as well to reduce permeability of vessels that may contribute to swelling. To promote circulation, dipeptide valyl-tryptophane and green tea have been added. A special ingredient to firm the skin is also present – lipopeptide Pal-GQPR. Finally, evodia and willow serve to reduce swelling of the tissue by way of anti-inflammatory properties.
Lastly, dark circles are less than desirable for anyone. Erase has Kojic acid, arbutin, rumex, vitamin c, vitamin E, and green tea all work together to lift pigment while chrysin, N-hydroxysuccinamide, and vitamin K reduce the appearance of blood pigment.
Cleansing is the foundation of all skin care and my cleansers were created with everyone in mind. For patients with acne prone skin,Prepare AC is available as a foaming cleanser containing green tea, vitamin C, vitamin E, and lactic acid. Prepare Cosmetic is designed for individuals with normal to dry skin containing DMAE and green tea. Finally, for those individuals with sensitive skin, Prepare Gentle has soothing anti-inflammatory evodia extract and ginger.
Now the skin is clean and prepared to receive top quality ingredients to improve a variety of conditions from aging to acne to razor bumps due to shaving. Let’s take a look at a few products starting with acne.
After cleansing with Prepare AC, it is ready for Tone. Tone has 0.5% salicylic acid to reduce oils in the skin that may have still remained after cleansing, as well as to open the follicle by removing dead skin cells present in the pore area. After toning the skin, Treat can be applied. Treat is a product containing 2% salicylic acid and retinol with titanium dioxide for sunblock. Salicylic acid is our first line defense against acne before a prescription drug is needed. Together, Prepare AC, Tone, and Treat represent a great first step in combatting acne.
For the booksack, purse, or pocket, Conceal is an excellent first defense for those acne lesions that seem to pop up out of nowhere during your day. 0.5% salicylic acid is the key active ingredient to help dry up the lesion, with evodia and ginger added to reduce the inflammation often associated with the lesions.
Let’s turn our attention to the unwanted signs of aging – brown blotches on the skin, wrinkles, and roughness.
After cleansing the skin with Prepare Cosmetic, Reveal and Perfection Complexion are a great combination to combat signs of aging. We will start with Reveal then cover Perfection later. You will realize after all you have learned this evening why I chose these two products for antiaging.
Reveal contains three of the key active ingredients we covered in the beginning of the presentation niacinamide, retinol, and soy isoflavones. These two ingredients work synergistically to increase collagen production, reduce free radical damage and the effects of glycation on collagen, and also serve to decrease redness that may be present at baseline contributing to overall uneven complexion. Reveal is unique in that it contains a small amount of a common alpha hydroxyl acid – trichloracetic acid – to open the skin surface allowing niacinamide, retinol, and soy to penetrate deeper into the dermis where they have maximum effect. Vitamin C and E are also present to serve as antioxidants and vitamin C is also an essential cofactor needed for the enzymes that produce new collagen.
Perfection Complexion picks up the final ingredient that we could fit into the ingredient deck of Reveal. Does anyone know what’s missing? That’s right, green tea. Remember, green tea, soy, retinol, and niacinamide are four key players in anti-aging. Perfection contains green tea, hyaluronic acid, niacinamide, and peptides to contribute to a more youthful appearance of the skin hydrating away fine lines while turning on the body’s own natural collagen production to reduce unwanted wrinkles.
Color Lift Spot Remedy is one of my favorite products for unwanted brown spots on the face and liver spots on the body. This product has an unbeatable ingredient deck designed to remove these spots in as short as two to three weeks. Hydroquinone is a key ingredient which reduces the activity of tyrosinase, an enzyme that stimulates pigmentation in the skin. Kojic acid and green tea assist by reducing the production of the pigment and transfer of the pigment from adjacent pigment cells into surrounding skin. Salicylic acid is added to exfoliate away outer skin cells that may have already received pigment through a process known as “melanosome transfer.”
A few final products to cover and we are done reviewing why I believe Natura Sciences MD offers the most advanced, scientifically proven ingredients. For everyone who shaves in the room, razor bumps can be a common undesirable issue. Close, with blade smoothing micro foam technology will change the way you feel about shaving. Trying is believing with this product. Close contains lavender, tea tree oil, and salicylic acid to make shaving a more pleasurable experience. Salicylic acid as you have learned is an excellent exfoliant at the follicle allowing the follicle to remain open preventing in-growth of hairs during the regrowth process. Lavender and tea tree oil act to soothe the skin as you shave. You feel the effects of an aftershave all while you are shaving away unwanted hair. Closewill truly change the way you feel about shaving. Try it for yourself.
Now that our skin has been cleaned, treated for acne or aging, we’ve removed unwanted hair, now it’s time to moisturize and protect. Repair, which there is a body lotion and facial cream, will soothe the skin and repair the barrier allowing the skin to retain moisture along the way. Here again, green tea was added for the multiple anti-aging properties afforded to the skin, along with natural anti-inflammatory herbals such as evodia and rapeseed.
No product line is complete without sun protection. Shade and Shade Sensitive are two products to choose from to meet your needs. Each product contains the gold standard for true sunblock titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. These physical blocking agents are not chemical based so there is no carcinogenic concern as with other chemical sunscreens. Furthermore, green tea is added for the wonderful anti-aging properties along with iron oxides. A unique ingredient to Shade and Shade Sensitive is the color blend technology that allows for a cosmetically elegant finish and final correction of any residual discoloration that may be present. This unique technology blends to match any skin of color and the finish is unbelievably light and non-greasy.
Natura MD Sciences is the result of over 10 years of research in skin physiology and function. I have taken the time to research the most effective ingredients to bring the consumer a product that will provide results.
